The
Nationwide Skylift
unit at Arbroath Abbey. |
Powered
access triumphed over traditional scaffolding when conservation
work was carried out recently at the 12th century Arbroath
Abbey in Scotland.
A
Skylift powered access unit from Nationwide was used to
carry out stone conservation on the west face of the abbey,
which is in the care of Historic Scotland, the government
agency responsible for looking after the nationıs historic
buildings.
The
Skylift allowed the work to be completed quicker, without
the need for scaffolding, and with less disruption for visitors.
The
truck-mounted Skylift unit and machine operator were supplied
by Nationwide's Glasgow depot. Historic Scotland carried
out the work in preparation for construction to begin on
a £1.7 million visitors' centre at the abbey.
Founded
in 1178, Arbroath Abbey hosted the most significant event
in Scottish history when, on 6th April 1320, the Scottish
Declaration of Independence was signed there.
