A
Nationwide boom lift put in a starring performance when
it took to the ice at a new ice centre in Nottingham.
Triple
salkos were out of the question for the 15.5 tonne machine,
but it nevertheless glided along the ice with ease to help
contractors Krantz Systems to make final adjustments to
the heating and cooling air outlets positioned high above
the rink in the Nottingham Ice Centre.
Fitted with special wheel covers to protect the ice, the
800AJ boom enabled Krantz Systems to put their skates on,
so to speak, and complete the job in record time.
Chairman Alan Ross said: "Powered access was the only
solution to enable us to carry out the adjustment work.
Scaffolding equipment could not have been placed directly
onto the ice so a scaffolding bridge would have had to be
made and the whole job would have been prohibitive both
in terms of time and money. We worked with the boom lift
through two nights because we could only go onto the ice
once the last skaters had finished at 10.30pm."
With a working height of 26.3m the articulating boom lift
could easily reach all areas of the ice centre. It was also
called upon by Hadens, the mechanical services contractors,
to carry out various installation work.
