Accidents
do happen, and if it is powered access equipment on hire
that is damaged, the cost of repairs can have horrendous
financial implications. This is because, under the Terms
and Conditions of the Construction Plant Hire Association,
the customer is responsible for any damage once a machine
is on hire.
However,
this need not worry hirers of booms and scissor lifts from
Nationwide, as the company offers its Power Guard protection
plan that provides peace of mind from the moment the equipment
becomes the customer's responsibility.
When you consider the cost of many of the machines hired
by Nationwide you can understand why the company says that
taking out Power Guard cover makes sound commercial sense.
Access machines have price tags from £10,000 to £100,000,
with the average unit costing around £35,000.
Under the Power Guard scheme, Nationwide customers can choose
either the Gold or Platinum plans. For just a ten percent
premium on the hire charge, the Gold plan provides cover
for the cost of repairs in the event of accidental damage.
The Platinum plan further boosts this protection and, for
a 20 percent premium, adds cover against theft, malicious
damage, and accidental damage caused by operator negligence.
Both plans cover every self-propelled platform in Nationwide's
fleet of more than 6,000 units, and are available from any
of the company's 50-plus hire depots spread throughout the
country.
Nationwide
is part of the publicly-quoted Lavendon Group Plc and is
headquartered in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. Its hire fleet
is twice the size of its nearest UK competitor and all of
the company's depots comply with Nationwide's ISO 9002 accreditation.
The Group is also a major player in the European powered
access market, trading under the name Zooom in Germany,
France, Spain, Austria and Switzerland.
