Big
Brother, the hugely successful voyeuristic TV game show,
turned to Nationwide for help when it came to filming the
final contestants being evicted from the Big Brother house
on the last day of the series.
The
machine selected by the show's production company, Endemol
Entertainment UK, was the rather lanky S50 Skylift Bronto,
a 50 metre truck-mounted boom, which was chosen from the
company's extensive Skylift range because of its height
and outreach capabilities. It enabled the camera to span
high over the mass of TV equipment and the huge audience
to catch the rejected contestants at the very moment of
their eviction and, of course, the triumphant winner.
It was the latest in a growing number of applications in
the film and broadcasting industry where the benefits of
truck-mounted booms are now widely established. Gary Brady,
Nationwide's Key Account Manager specialising in the media
sector put it succinctly saying: "As Skylift truck
mounts are supplied with a fully trained and experienced
driver/operator, they are ready for action immediately they
arrive on site. He continues: "They are also very versatile
machines that can get the camera operator into position
for the best angle for every shot. As they are easy to move
around, Skylift truck mounts also help to ensure that short
lived filming opportunities are not missed."
There are currently nearly two dozen machine types from
which to choose in the 166-strong Skylift truck-mounted
fleet that are available throughout the country, either
from Nationwide's specialist Skylift Master Depots or through
any of the company's 50 or so powered access depots. The
largest is, in fact, the big brother to the Bronto 50, the
72 metre platform height Bronto 72, which was used for filming
the recent British Grand Prix.
Nationwide
is part of the publicly-quoted Lavendon Group plc and is
headquartered in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. Its hire fleet
is twice the size of its nearest UK competitor and all of
the company's depots comply with Nationwide's ISO 9002 accreditation.
The Group is also the leading player in the European powered
access market, trading under the name Zooom in Germany,
France, Spain and Austria.
