A GS26 scissor lift from Nationwide Access has been helping steelwork contractor MJ Hughes erect steel bridges on the new M62/A1-M interchange at Ferrybridge, near Leeds, on behalf of main contractor Road Management Group (RMG).
Hughes is erecting steel bridge structures along the length of the new 20 mile motorway. In total, there will be 29 steel bridges.
The Genie GS26 was used to give access to the bridge joints, where there are four welded joints on each bridge and the welders had to be lifted, with all their welding equipment, to a height of 6 m to do the job.
Nationwide has supplied a variety of machines to help with the construction work including large self-propelled booms, JLG66Js and 80Js to help with the steelwork erection. The JLG66J and 80J give working heights of 22 m and 26 m respectively.
The contract is scheduled for completion towards the end of next year.
