CONTRACTORS (AND STUDENTS) REACH HIGHER WITH HELP FROM NATIONWIDE

Steel erector DK Steel has used three 45-foot Genie articulated boom lifts from Nationwide Access to help with the erection of over 1,000 tonnes of structural steel for a new school complex in Darlington.

The contract formed part of a project, undertaken by main contractor Kajima, to build a new 'Education Village' at Haughton School. The Education Village will provide the existing secondary school with additional Sixth Form facilities, enabling students to stay on after GCSEs to study for A-levels and vocational qualifications.

"Our contract involved erecting steelwork fabricated by Atlas Ward of Sherburn, North Yorkshire", says DK Steel's plant manager Kevin Raper. Over a two-month period, DK Steel erected about 1,000 tonnes of steelwork, completing the work in mid-October.

Nationwide Access is a major supplier of access equipment to DK Steel, which operates throughout the UK. "We have about 40 - 50 machines on hire at any one time", says Mr Raper, "and I'd say about 90 per cent of them are supplied by Nationwide. Their equipment and service are always very good, and Nationwide is the only access hirer I know of that can always get us the right machine, wherever we're working".

The three Genie boom-lifts were among several other access platforms supplied by Nationwide's Stockton-on-Tees depot to sub-contractors working on the Haughton School project.
