Nationwide Access has taken delivery of two 20 m CTE Z20 access platforms, its first machines from the Italian manufacturer.
The Z20 is a truck mounted articulating boom platform which can lift two people to a working height of 20 m. The articulating boom gives excellent flexibility and can extend to an outreach of 10 m with its maximum load of 200 kg.
The machines were purchased from distributor CTE UK, one specifically for long-term rental to Bradford City Council who will be using the machine for various maintenance activities.
The Z20 is mounted on a 3.5 tonne Nissan Cabstar chassis and can therefore be driven by anybody holding a normal Category B driving licence. "Previously, a platform of this size would be mounted on a larger chassis, limiting users to those holding a Category C licence" explains Roger Wickens, technical services manager for Nationwide Access.
Another major benefit of the Z20 is the fact that it has a 'zero tailswing', meaning that no part of the boom or superstructure extends beyond the footprint of the machine when in use.
"This is a major safety benefit for Bradford", says Wickens. "This machine will be working most of the time by the side of the road, where any projection into the path of oncoming traffic is a potential hazard. Zero tailswing removes any risk of collision".
