Nationwide Access's Bronto Skylifts are proving an invaluable resource for the UK's Renewable Energy generators as a cost effective means of carrying out vital inspection and maintenance work on wind farms.
The machine pictured, which has a 34metre outreach, was drafted in to help generator CeltPower with a round of recent blade inspections on the P&L wind farm in Llandiniam, Mid Wales.
The farm is home to 103 x 300Kw turbines, each standing 30 metres high. Using Nationwide Access's machines means the site's engineers can move quickly and easily between all the turbines, checking the condition of the 12.5metre-long blades.
All P&L's maintenance work is carried out by Sinclair Knight Merz and Andrew Williams is the wind farm Supervisor. "These machines are central to our inspection work as they give us a safe platform from which to inspect the turbines," he explained. "We couldn't do our job without them."
P&L's turbines produce up to 30.9MW of energy, enough to meet the power needs of around 19,500 homes. To make sure they keep turning, Nationwide Access offers a range of lifts that can work at heights of up to 72 metres.
