When environmental services experts First Response needed to complete a gutter cleaning job on a particularly tricky building in York, they had no hesitation in calling in Nationwide Access, the UK's largest provider of powered access equipment.
Nationwide Access immediately despatched a T44W diesel-powered 44m Skylift Truck Mounted boom to the Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) HQ building at Station Road, York. The machine was to be used as part of an extensive cleaning project to rid the building's gutters and pipe work of leaves, debris and bird droppings.
The T44W Skylift was selected to carry out the job as it offers a platform height of 42 metres and a working height of 44 metres, 'perfect for reaching the building's highest elevations' adds Steve Hornby of First Response. In addition to its height capability the T44W offers an outreach of 26 metres, which First Response needed to fully utilise when reaching over obstacles and lower buildings.
Steve Hornby continued, "It is time consuming, inconvenient and expensive to complete a job like this without powered access. We would need to scaffold various parts of the building to reach the guttering, and then leave the scaffolds in place until the job was finished.
"Using a T44W truck mount meant we could bring the machine on site and set it up for operation quickly. We then positioned it at different points around the building to complete the cleaning. This particular job required us to work on consecutive Sundays to avoid disrupting the workforce. The flexible nature of powered access meant we could remove the truck at the end of the day, leave the site undisturbed, and then set up again the following week."
