Nationwide Access, the UK's leading specialist in powered access equipment for the hire market, has taken delivery of the first consignment of 23 new truck mounted machines from Italian manufacturer CTE.
The order, worth just over £1 million, is the first Nationwide has ever placed with CTE who were chosen for their industry-leading technical specifications. The purchase includes 21 machines with working heights between 14m and 20m all on 3.5 tonne chassis and 2 larger 32m machines that have an impressive outreach of 20m, considering the relatively narrow 3.1m wide footprint.
Peter Douglas, Skylift General Manager with Nationwide Access comments: "The 3.5 tonne machines will be aimed squarely at the self-drive market as they can be driven by anybody holding a normal UK drivers' licence".
Until a few years ago, all car drivers were permitted to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonne gross weight. This limit was reduced to 3.5 tonnes in 1997 and all drivers who passed their test since then are prevented from driving anything larger than 3.5 tonne on a car licence.
"This instantly placed restrictions for access users on who could attend jobs using truck mounted access platforms", says Mr Douglas. "However, the lightweight CTE format makes these machines available to a much wider range of end-users and makes it easier for our customers to plan their activities".
The new CTE truckmounts will join Nationwide Access' Skylift fleet, the largest fleet of truck mounted access platforms in the UK. Delivery of the remaining CTE order is being phased over the next four months with the last two machines, both 32m working-height CTE Z32 truck mounts, scheduled for May.
The CTE order represents part of a wider investment in new equipment by Nationwide Access. Earlier this year, the company announced orders of almost £7 million in new access platforms for delivery over the next 6 months.
