NEW LOOK SKYLIFT BUSINESS REACHES INTO SELF-OPERATED MARKET
Skylift, the lorry mounted division of Nationwide Access, is celebrating its 10 year anniversary during 2006 with a fresh new image. The rebrand also marks the launch of Skylift's strategy to meet clients' needs through a move into the market for smaller, self-operated machines.

Following its operational separation from the wider Nationwide Access fleet at the end of 2005, the business has been re-branded as 'Skylift from Nationwide'. The rebrand reinforces the client benefits of using high-specification and versatile truck mounted machines (as opposed to booms and scissors) on a range of jobs from highways maintenance to street lighting. It also reflects the business's specific logistical approach to servicing the truck mounted sector, where machines need to be moved around the country quickly and efficiently to satisfy an increasing demand for short-term rentals.

Skylift, which is headed up by UK General Manager and powered access specialist Peter Douglas, has always serviced the operated truck mount sector through its network of depots in Belfast, Coventry, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, St Albans and Cardiff.

Since taking over the General Manager position in 2005, Peter Douglas has restructured Skylift into a specialist division. He is responsible for 110 staff including 85 drivers, 15 engineers, a team of district managers and a dedicated engineering manager, as well as training, and new & used machine sales. For the coming year Peter's priority is to better service clients' needs and to increase Skylift's client base across the UK.

A key growth strategy is to enter the market for smaller self-operated machines, which can be easily operated by all drivers holding a car licence, even those who passed their tests after 1997. To support this Skylift has recently purchased 24 brand new machines including 21 new 3.5 tonne chassis CTE Z14 and CTE Z20 truck mounts.

The new machines mean Skylift can offer a more flexible, high-profile, cost effective and responsive fleet. All machines can either be delivered to clients anywhere in the UK at short notice or collected from one of the seven dedicated Skylift hubs or Nationwide's wider network of 44 depots.

"Demand for self-operated smaller machines is growing extremely quickly and we are perfectly positioned to service clients through our nationwide network of depots," commented Peter Douglas.

"Nationwide Access' sales team will be making a concerted effort to highlight the cost and user benefits of these machines and to grow our share of this sector. We also have a well-established operator training programme, which solidly underpins our offering to the market."

In addition to the 21 smaller truck mounts, which are located at depots across the UK, Skylift has purchased two new CTE Z32 metre machines on 18 tonne chassis: for operated hire only. The final new addition to the fleet is an unusual Bronto 37 metre heavy-duty truck mount with a 750kg cage capacity. This will be based at the St Albans depot to service the specific needs of the film industry, which utilises high-capacity machines to hold lighting rigs.

The rebrand aligns Skylift with the main business branding and uses Nationwide Access's distinctive blue livery. Recently the Training and Accessories services offered by Nationwide Access have also received a similar rebrand. By creating the three sub-brands Nationwide Access have committed to individually manage and develop these specialist areas whilst ensuring they are still available to all customers through one company.
